Many talented actors with great potential come to Hollywood and never get
the chance to grow as an actor or show what they can do.
Most of the newcomers who come to Hollywood run into problems because they
don't know where to go. They don't know who's legitimate or who to trust.
If you are now in Hollywood or planning to come to Hollywood to become
an actor, there are a few things I would like to share with you that can
save you a lot of time and money.
First you need a good headshot or a three-quarter pose. Don't spend a lot
of money on your first photo session because, most likely, you will have
to reshoot when you find an agent. You can get one roll of film shot for
$75 to $100 and that's all you need to get you started.
If you are a model, you may need something a little more exotic to catch
a good modeling agent's eye. You will need a resume and if you are new,
you may feel funny about not having much to put on it. Don't worry--everyone
starts out as a beginner. Tom Cruise did. Demi Moore did. Your resume will
build as you go along so forget about what's not on your resume and go
after something to put on it.
Never go to an agent unless they are franchised by the Screen Actors Guild.
The Right Agent gives you all the legitimate agents that are franchised
by the Screen Actors Guild. Agents can't charge you anything up front.
They get 10% and that is only after you have been paid for the work you
have done. Always find your own photographer and workshop.
If an agent says you have to go to a certain photographer or workshop before
he or she will represent you, get up and walk away because this is not
legal.
Don't be so eager to get an agent that you forget what I am telling you.
If an agent believes in you, they will take you for your talent and not
because of how much you spend with a certain photographer or workshop.
You can find all the legitimate workshops and legitimate photographers
in the Hollywood Career Services book listed on the catalog page.
Good luck and remember--don't let anyone take away your dream.
If you want a career in the entertainment business, don't let anything
or anyone make you feel like it's out of your reach. You'll never know
until you try.
You can e-mail us your name and phone number and someone will call you
if you would like more information about how to get started in Hollywood.
Good luck and remember you can also attend seminars at the same studio
where some of your favorite shows are now being produced and taped. E-mail
or call is you are interested in visiting Keith Wolfe at one of his World
Famous Entertainment Seminars.
